There raged in Carbondale, Pennsylvania
an enormous fire in the ground. Filth belched out of a huge pit
where giant steam shovels dug into the burning seams 24 hours a day.
Many wondered if it was possible to
extinguish it.
Houses were demolished as the fire spread wider and wider.
Draglines smashed their way across neighborhoods in pursuit of the hellish
inferno.
